Did you know it’s believed Valentine’s Day dates back to A.D. 271?! There are many different beliefs about the origin of Valentine's Day, ranging from Christianity to Greek Mythology. It wasn’t until the 1300’s that the holiday became associated with love and romance. In the 18th century, it became common practice to exchange small tokens of affection and handwritten notes.

The United States isn’t the only country to celebrate Valentine’s Day. This holiday is celebrated in Canada, Mexico, the United Kingdom, France, and Australia. Many Latin American countries know the holiday as el dia de los enamorados (day of lovers) or dia del amor y la amistad (day of love and friendship). The holiday in Latin countries' focus is also directed at showing gratitude towards friends.

As we age, the importance of social connection is associated with increased longevity and positive health behaviors. Research has found loneliness is one of the most powerful predictors of mortality.
